Mayor's Message

Mayor Kamena
Mayor Marshall Kamena

Livermore is a city of 83,604 residents. Located approximately fifty miles east of San Francisco, Livermore is home to two world-renowned national laboratories, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory. Livermore's heritage includes some of the oldest vineyards in California, and a tradition of cattle ranching. Today, our city continues to expand its wine-making industry and celebrate its cowboy tradition with an annual rodeo.

Livermore's local and regional economy is strong and diverse. Our inclusion within the Northern aspect of the Silicon Valley and other major Northern California market and employment centers enables us to benefit from business development and expansion, while preserving the quality of life that originally brought people to Livermore.

The City of Livermore and its development partners are moving forward with the Livermore Valley Center. This exciting plan envisions a 1500 seat regional performing arts facility, a conference center, a boutique style hotel, specialty shops, and restaurants all in the heart of Downtown Livermore.

Livermore's land use plan to delineate permanent urban limit lines on both its southern and northern boundaries is progressing. The South Livermore Plan has already resulted in impressive contributions to acreage devoted to viticulture and open space. To date, over 4,000 acres of vineyards in South Livermore are in production. The South Livermore Plan also allowed us to double the size of Sycamore Grove Park.

With the passage of Measure L, a $150 million bond issue supporting an expansion of our public facilities, a new Civic Center Library and a new Community Center have recently been built. The remainder of the Measure L funds are used to upgrade and maintain the City's schools. These improvements enhance Livermore's reputation as a great place to raise a family!

Las Positas College is expanding to meet the needs of the Valley. The College District and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have formed a number of training and education partnerships, including: an apprenticeship program in conjunction with the National Tooling and Machinery Association; a new laser-tech program; and future Bachelor of Science Program at the UC Davis satellite facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Industrial and commercial construction activity continues to fill our existing business and industrial parks throughout the City. Construction of Cayetano Park, a 100-acre business park, will be one of Livermore's premier corporate campus locations.

Livermore is home to the Tri-Valley Technology Enterprise Center (TTEC). TTEC is a not-for-profit business accelerator and development center committed to supporting the growth and expansion of information, telecommunications, and science technology commercialization. TTEC is the first full service, business incubator affiliated with LLNL and Sandia National Laboratories.

The character and heritage of Livermore make it a special place to live and work!

Warm regards,

Marshall Kamena, O. D.
Mayor
