General Information
Every person or business that sells tangible items, provides service or has an office (including Internet businesses) within the City of Livermore must have a Livermore business license. A business license is not transferable. It is the responsibility of the business owner to notify the city of any changes to the business; such as, name change, location change, emergency contact change, ownership change, type of business, etc. If you have questions call (925) 960-4310, FAX (925) 960-4319 or E-mail: businesslicense@ci.livermore.ca.us

All businesses located within the city limits of Livermore must contact the Planning Department at (925) 960-4450 as to zoning regulations concerning their business location. All signs must be approved through Planning. The prior owner may not be in compliance, call a Planner to find out.

A business such as a Day Spa, Massage, Solicitor, Dance, Card Room and Taxi should contact the Livermore Police Department at (925) 371-4900 for their requirements.

Businesses should be aware of requirements from other Federal, State, County and City Departments that affect their own business.

The agencies listed below may apply to your business but are not a complete list.

• Fictitious Name: Alameda County (510) 272-6789. File the fictitious name with the County your business is located in. When you file your business name you reserve the name for your business for 5 years. After 5 years the business owner must remember to renew the business name so no one can take the business name. You may choose the newspaper of your choice to run your fictitious name statement.
  
  
• Child Care: State of California (510) 622-2602 All childcare providers must be licensed with the State. If you have more than 8 children you must contact the City of Livermore Planning Department at (925) 960-4450.
  
  
• Contractors License Board: State of California (800) 321-2752. Those without a contractors license can only do jobs totaling (all labor and materials) up to $500. A contractor can do larger jobs.
