Downtown Livermore Revitalization Project
Livermore's
Downtown Revitalization Project is a major component of the Downtown
Specific Plan recently approved by City Council. The Downtown Specific
Plan was completed as a team effort between City staff and consulting
firm Freedman Tung & Bottomley. The team effort continues as the First
Street design is fine-tuned and as outreach is established with
local business owners and the community. As First Street is
transformed from a state highway to a pedestrian-friendly hub,
citizens can expect to enjoy the following renovations:
- Narrowing of First Street between Maple Street/Railroad
Avenue and L Street to two lanes of traffic (one in each direction)
- A "flexible zone" to facilitate diagonal parking, outdoor
dining, sidewalk vendors, and art displays
- New features such as trellises, a step curb, street lighting,
additional trees, and other landscape amenities
- A new fountain area to include a pedestrian plaza at the
southwest corner of South Livermore Avenue and First Street
