The Engineering Division ensures that public works infrastructure, transportation systems, storm drainage, water supply, sewage collection and treatment, public buildings, landscaped areas, golf courses and airport meet community requirements. For more information on infrastructure click here.

There are five Sections within the Engineering Division. They are:

Administration
The Administrative staff includes the City Engineer, Division Clerk, Senior Clerk, and two Typist Clerks. This section provides administrative direction and secretarial support to public works programs, and interfaces with other City departments, the City Council, Planning Commission, and other committees.

Construction
The Construction Section employs a staff of public works inspectors who provide contract administration and inspection of public works projects to assure that all construction is performed in accordance with City standards. The Construction Section also administers the City's Sidewalk Repair Program.

Design
The Design Section employs a staff of engineers who design public works projects, prepare plans, specifications and estimates to receive bids for the construction of such projects. The Design Section also administers federal and state grants as well as the City's capital improvement program.

Development
The Development Section employs a staff of engineers and technicians who ensure that private developments comply with legal requirements, as well as high standards of quality, safety, aesthetics and function, which also reflect the public interest. The Development Section also issues Encroachment Permits for work in the public right-of-way and calculates development fees for new developments.

Transportation
The Transportation Section employs a staff of engineers and technicians who ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods and people throughout the city by performing traffic operations, transportation planning and design functions.

Transportation staff respond to requests for traffic signs and markings, monitor traffic signals and street lighting, analyze impacts and review plans for various development projects. They also ensure safe bicycle, pedestrian and equestrian facilities, as well as roadway and intersection improvement projects.
