Information on Running for Office
In the City of Livermore

The City of Livermore's General Municipal Elections are conducted in odd numbered years. The next election will be held in November, 2011.

How to Get Started

Thinking about running for office?  Here’s what you can do now.

  • Confirm that you are currently registered to vote in the City of Livermore. If you’re not sure, contact the Registrar of Voters Office at 510-272-6973.
  • Attend City Council meetings on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 3575 Pacific Avenue, watch tapes of the Council meetings on Comcast Cable (check www.tv30.org for airtimes), or view Council meetings by accessing Video On Demand through the City's website (www.ci.livermore.ca.us).
  • Read the City Council Agenda and Staff Reports, available at the City’s Website at www.ci.livermore.ca.us

How to Run for Office

  • Any registered voter residing in the City of Livermore may run for office.
  • Using forms provided by the City Clerk’s Office during the nominating period, you must obtain the signatures of at least 20 but not more than 30 registered voters in the City of Livermore.
In late spring 2011, you can request a Pre-Election Packet from the City Clerk's Office at 925-960-4200. This packet contains the Fair Political Practices Commission Information Manual 2, as well as various forms that will enable you to set up your campaign committee and bank account and explain how to track and report your contributions and expenditures. The packet also includes the City's campaign ordinance, which establishes contribution limits in the City of Livermore and sets forth special reporting requirements for City of Livermore candidates.
