Duties and Responsibilities

The Commission advises the City Council on the adoption and on-going review of the General Plan for the physical growth of the City. The Plan, in conjunction with the Zoning Ordinance, guides the general location of future public facilities, private buildings, and improvements. The Commission also serves as an advisory body to the Council on matters related to City growth and development. The Commission has specific responsibilities in the administration of the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances, including decisions or recommendations on subdivision of lands and other development projects. Commission members promote public interest in planning and encourage citizen participation in the formulation of the General Plan. The members also acquaint the public with problems and solutions relating to the local physical environment.
