On June 30, 2010, the City will extend a heartfelt thank you to Waste Management for more than 40 years of service. Because the term of the contract with Waste Management was ending, the City requested proposals to collect recycling, garbage, and organics and received responses from three companies in April of 2009. Waste Management was invited to bid but declined to submit a proposal.
Waste Management is credited with helping Livermore achieve a 64% solid waste diversion rate—among the highest statewide. In addition to implementing new recycling programs, Waste Management has served as a strong community partner for numerous local events and organizations.
On July 1, 2010, the City will welcome Livermore Sanitation and a new era in recycling, garbage and organics services. Livermore City Council selected this local independent hauler because their proposal offered enhanced services at the lowest cost compared with other applicants. The 10-year franchise agreement with Livermore Sanitation will provide new programs designed to help citizens and employers live and work “greener.”
